The FOSD Meeting Series is a yearly informal meeting to bring together the community of researchers working on feature-oriented software development, including, but not limited:

The meeting started more than 10 years ago to bring several research groups with common interests closer together. The meeting has successfully been repeated 11 times with 20 to 50 participants each, and has established countless collaborations since. For example, see FOSD 2019 in Weimar and FOSD 2018 in Gothenburg.

The main objective is that researchers at different career stages (including undergraduate and early-career graduate students) come together to present their research, to get feedback from peers, to discuss new directions, and to initiate collaborations.

The format of an FOSD meeting consists of short presentations from each participant with plenty of time for discussion. Young researchers (graduate and undergraduate students), as well as more senior community members, present their research, provide and get feedback from others, engage into discussions and establish new collaborations. FOSD is a place for discussion, not a publication venue. Participants can present previously published work as well as unpublished work, including early ideas and work in progress. The key is to encourage discussions, to receive feedback and to grow the network of collaborating researchers.

After the COVID-cancelled FOSD 2020 and due to interest in the community, we offer the 2021 FOSD Online Meeting as an opportunity to stay in touch and share ongoing and early work despite travel restrictions.

We are aware that a virtual event cannot replace a physical meeting, especially when considering the particular spirit of the FOSD Meeting Series. However, we hope that we can fulfill its key objectives, as well as have a pleasant time together.

Our next physical meeting is planned for 2022 in Vienna, Austria.

The FOSD Online Meeting will take place from April 13 until April 15, 2021.

See schedule for the schedule and participants.

Online Venue

The format of the virtual event will be different from traditional FOSD Meetings.

While there will of course be regular presentations and plenty room for discussion via Zoom, we will also provide the opportunity to meet and discuss with community members in different areas in Zoom.

Based on acceptance, there will be a second deadline to submit any material (e.g., a poster slide or a pre-recorded tool demo) until April 6.
